THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

3 Gifted & Talented students and ex-students visited Hazelwood Primary School (one of Winchmore’s many feeder schools) to give a presentation on life at Winchmore to Y5 and Y6 students. This was followed by a question and answer session where the primary students asked questions ranging from ‘can you play football?’ to ‘what are the drama facilities like?’

ART OUTREACH PROJECTS
As part of Winchmore Schools Expressive Arts status there have been a number of outreach projects involving our new Art AST (advanced skills teacher) and the primary school arts coordinators. A year- long ‘Africa’ project in celebration  of our partnership with Mpopoma High, a Zimbabwean school,  culminated in an exhibition of work from all 5 primary schools (Raynham, Raglan, Oakthorpe, Firs Farm and Highfield). This work had been produced throughout the year with the guidance and support of teachers in the art department.

Highfield school reception pupils designed a ‘Jungle’ themed mural which Year 9 Winchmore students  interpreted and painted at the school with the assistance of the reception pupils.

Other outreach projects include a Gifted and Talented workshop at Raynham for Years 5 and 6, an INSET for the primary coordinators on skills and techniques and whole school INSET for Highfield and Oakthorpe schools on a range of art disciplines.

Also the AST worked with all Year 6 students at Raglan School to produce the set for their school production.

These were all a real success and these exciting learning opportunities culminated in the production of quality art works. Click here to see it.

THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY
In July 2009 we hosted guests from Mpopoma High, our partner school, in Zimbabwe.  A world renowned poet, Albert Nyathi, and two of their Sixth Formers, joined Winchmore students in a series of exciting and challenging events as part of its Creativity and Enterprise Week. Click on this link for more details:

Young Ambassadors Scheme:
Two Y10 girls are currently working as ambassadors for Enfield Summer University within school. They have attended meetings in Enfield where they gathered information and ideas to promote the many activities and sports that are on offer at Enfield Summer University. They have worked tirelessly to market and promote the courses to keep Winchmore students busy over the summer! THE LONDON COMMUNITY
Over the last year, several Art students have been working on a partnership project with the Royal British Legion, commemorating the Great War. This has involved visits to the Albert Hall and the Chelsea Hospital where our students spoke to war veterans. Click on this link for more details:

COMMUNITY PROJECT WORK
Year 12 and 13
As part of the BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care, the students undertake a weekly work based placement in a variety of care environments; nurseries, primary schools, day centres for people with differing physical and mental abilities, schools for children with additional needs and residential care homes for older people.

Year 11
As part of the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care students undertake a fortnightly work based placement as above.
Whilst on placement all students gain a valuable insight into care environments.  Students support individual clients within the community, for example, they may accompany older clients to the local shops; take an active part in a range of creative and therapeutic activities in these different care settings.

The Food Technology department has been doing outreach work with Year 5 at Highfield Primary School making healthy cookies. Pupils have been using the department’s facilities to make a range of flavoured cookies based on a high fibre recipe.
